Band and Instrument Tracking
Capture the raw energy and cohesive chemistry of your ensemble in a space designed for sonic transparency and musical flow.
Recording a full band requires more than just multiple microphones; it demands a strategic approach to acoustics, bleed management, and a shared creative energy. At Razuwanuscapital, we provide a professional environment where musicians can perform together in real-time, ensuring that the natural interplay between instruments is preserved in every take.
Our Brisbane studio is engineered to handle the complexities of multi-instrumental tracking. Whether you are recording a tight four-piece rock outfit, a jazz ensemble, or layered orchestral elements, our live room is treated to provide a balanced ambient sound that supports the natural resonance of your instruments while maintaining the surgical precision needed for the modern mixing stage.

The Recording Process
Achieving a polished band recording involves a systematic approach to ensure technical stability and creative freedom. We follow a four-stage workflow to move your project from the rehearsal room to the final tracking session.
Pre-Session Coordination
Before you enter the studio, we coordinate with your production manager or band leader to understand the arrangement, tempo maps, and desired sonic character. We discuss the instrument list and specific microphone preferences to ensure the studio is pre-wired and ready the moment you arrive.
Sound Check and Isolation
We spend the first part of the session positioning amplifiers and instruments to minimise unwanted bleed while maintaining a natural sound. Our engineers manage the placement of baffles and the selection of microphones to ensure each instrument has its own distinct space in the stereo field.
Tracking and Performance
With the levels set, the band performs the tracks. We focus on capturing authentic emotional takes, managing the click track or scratch guides, and ensuring that the energy of the live performance is translated accurately into the digital recording.
Session Wrap and Data Backup
Once the takes are approved, we perform a final check of all files. The session is backed up immediately to our secure archive, and the raw multi-tracks are organised by instrument and take number for the subsequent mixing phase.
Who This Service Is For
Band and instrument tracking is specifically designed for musical acts who rely on the synergy of live performance. This includes indie, rock, jazz, and folk bands who want to avoid the sterile feel of completely isolated "overdubbing" and instead prefer the organic feel of playing together in one room. It is also ideal for session musicians and composers requiring high-quality tracking of acoustic instruments such as drums, bass, and guitars.
If your project requires a cohesive rhythmic foundation—where the drummer and bassist are locked in and the guitarists are reacting to the energy of the room—this is the correct service. We cater to both established professionals who know exactly what they need and emerging artists who require the guidance of an experienced sound engineer to achieve a commercial-grade sound.
How the Workflow Operates
Our approach to band tracking is centered on efficiency and musicality. We believe that the engineer should be an invisible facilitator of the music. Upon arrival, your ensemble is integrated into our 120 m² facility, utilizing our three dedicated rooms to balance isolation and interaction. We use a combination of large-diaphragm condensers and treated acoustics to capture the full frequency spectrum of your instruments.
Throughout the day, we maintain a rigorous standard of signal flow management. Every input is meticulously labelled, and we provide real-time monitoring for all musicians to ensure they are comfortable with their headphone mixes. This allows the band to focus entirely on the performance rather than the technical constraints of the recording environment.
Client Preparation Checklist
To maximise the value of your studio time, we recommend that all clients arrive fully prepared. Studio time is billed by the day, and technical delays can eat into your creative window. Please ensure the following are organised before your arrival:
- Rehearsed Arrangements: All members should be confident in the structure, tempos, and transitions of the songs to be recorded.
- Instrument Maintenance: New strings on guitars and basses, tuned drums, and functioning cables to avoid mid-session delays.
- Scratch Tracks: If you are recording to a click, providing a demo or scratch track helps the engineer set up the session quickly.
- Reference Tracks: A few examples of professionally recorded songs that reflect the sound you are aiming for.

Deliverables and Output
Upon completion of the tracking phase, the client receives a comprehensive set of digital assets. We do not provide physical tapes; all delivery is digital to ensure the highest possible fidelity and ease of transfer to the mixing stage.
The deliverables include:
- High-resolution raw multi-tracks (stems) in WAV format.
- Consistent sample rates and bit depths (typically 48kHz/24-bit or higher) as agreed upon during the pre-session.
- Organised folder structures with clear labelling for every instrument and microphone position.
- A basic rough mix of the selected takes for immediate review.
Timeline and Turnaround
A standard band tracking session is typically booked as a full day (8 hours). Depending on the number of songs and the complexity of the arrangements, a project may require between one and five full days of tracking. The raw files are available for download immediately after the session is wrapped and the final payment is processed.
Please note that tracking is a separate phase from mixing. While we provide a rough mix, the professional polishing of the sound happens during the mixing and mastering stage, which is a separate service with its own timeline. We recommend booking these phases in sequence to maintain the creative momentum of the project.
What Is Not Included
To maintain transparency in our pricing, it is important to note what is not covered under the "Band and Instrument Tracking" service:
- Songwriting and Arranging: We provide the space and technical expertise, but we do not provide songwriting services or musical direction.
- Instrument Rental: While we provide microphones and monitors, musicians must bring their own instruments, amplifiers, and pedals.
- Final Mixing and Mastering: This service covers the capture of audio only. Post-production is billed separately.
- External Studio Hire: All tracking must take place within our Brisbane facility.
Pricing and GST
Our pricing is structured to be transparent and predictable. We charge a day rate for full band sessions to allow for the extensive setup and teardown required for multi-instrumental tracking. All prices are listed with the Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 10%.
For B2B clients, payment terms are strictly 14 days from the date of invoice. For individual artists, a deposit of 30% is required to secure the booking date, as per our studio rules. This ensures that the studio is reserved exclusively for your ensemble and that the engineering team is prepared for your specific technical requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we record as a full band or do we need to record instruments one by one?
Our studio is specifically designed for full band tracking. We have the space and the equipment to record up to 6 musicians simultaneously, allowing you to capture the natural chemistry of your performance. However, we can also accommodate "hybrid" sessions where a rhythm section is tracked live and other instruments are overdubbed later.
What happens if we need to cancel our session?
We understand that schedules change. We offer free cancellation up to 3 days before your scheduled session. Cancellations made within this window may result in the loss of your 30% deposit. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for full details.
How are the final files delivered?
All files are delivered digitally as high-resolution WAV files. We provide a secure download link to the multi-tracks and stems. We recommend that you download and back up these files immediately, although we keep a master archive of your session for 12 months.
Do you provide the instruments?
No, we do not provide instruments or amplifiers. All musicians are expected to bring their own gear. We provide the professional microphones, pre-amps, and the acoustically treated environment to ensure those instruments sound their best.
